Abstract

The aim of the research was to identify the relationship between special physical abilities and some defensive skills of goalkeepers in the Iraqi Youth Football League, as well as to identify exercises to develop some basic defensive skills for young goalkeepers in football. The researcher assumed the existence of a statistically significant relationship between special physical abilities and some defensive skills for the research sample. The research community was the clubs of the Iraqi Professional Football League for the football season (2024-2025), and the number of those clubs was (20) clubs participating in the Iraqi Professional Premier League Championship, namely (Al-Zawraa, Al-Talaba, Al-Shorta, Al-Jawiya, Al-Najaf, Zakho, Dohuk, Noorzo, Erbil, Al-Kahraba, Al-Naft, Karbala, Al-Qasim, Al-Mina, Al-Hudud, Naft Basra). The researcher deliberately chose the club's main goalkeepers, numbering (20) players, and four (4) of them were goalkeepers who participated in the exploratory experiment, so that the research sample would be (16) goalkeepers. The study aims to identify the relationship between special physical abilities and some defensive skills of young goalkeepers in clubs participating in the Iraqi Football League. The researcher assumed the existence of a statistically significant relationship between physical abilities The researcher used the descriptive approach to suit the nature of the problem to be solved, and statistical methods such as the arithmetic mean, standard deviation, and simple correlation (Pearson). This study resulted in the existence of a significant correlation between the special physical abilities and some defensive skills of football goalkeepers. The researcher recommended the need to pay attention to training programs during the competition period by linking tactical training sentences to special physical abilities, which are positively reflected in the development of the skill performance of young football goalkeepers in the advanced stages of training .
